Wayne Shivers
Wayne holds a black belt in Judo under two-time U.S. Olympian Colton Brown and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the Silver Fox/Renzo Gracie lineage. His instruction blends traditional Judo principles with practical grappling knowledge, creating a well-rounded learning experience for students of all skill levels.
With more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, Wayne currently serves as a Lieutenant with a local police department. He is also a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor through the New Jersey Police Training Commission and assists in training police recruits at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
Wayne earned his Bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and brings a thoughtful, professional approach to every class. His teaching emphasizes technical excellence, safety, and effective instruction while fostering a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone can develop confidence and enjoy the art of Judo.
Inspired by Judo’s philosophy of mutual welfare and benefit, Wayne believes that training should help students grow both on and off the mat. Alongside developing strong technical skills and sportsmanship, he also stresses the practical self-defense applications of Judo, equipping students with techniques that can help them protect themselves while building discipline, resilience, and respect.
